A Heart Garden at ElmTree Clinic
ElmTree clinic is located on Treaty 6 territory, traditional lands of the First nations and Metis people who have lived here for centuries. All of us who live here are beneficiaries of this peace and friendship treaty.
We were inspired by the First Nations Caring Society to plant a heart garden at ElmTree Clinic. Check out Honouring Memories, Planting Dreams on their website.
Each heart in our garden represents an indigenous child who died in a residential school in Canada. The hearts also represent our commitment to reconciliation.
In our work and in our daily lives, we see the effects of inter-generational trauma but also all the ways that healing can occur. Over many years, all the practitioners at ElmTree Clinic have worked to support the mental health and well-being of indigenous children and their families. We are striving to help the next generation of children, in collaboration with many others in our community.
We recognize the need for appreciating and valuing the richness of cultural differences. Our services need to respect and incorporate the values of all the families that we serve.
Please tell us what you value, and we will listen and learn from you.
From our hopeful hearts to yours, we commit to the process of reconciliation and we support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s call to action.
